An immersive exploration trip—often called a family trip—can transform into a heartwarming journey when camaraderie and support bind everyone together. This is exactly what our dedicated Klookers and talented Klook Kreators experienced during an exhilarating seven-day escapade across Japan!
Three enthusiastic Klookers set off on their most extensive exploration trip yet, alongside Klook Kreators hailing from various parts of the world. Curious about how their adventure unfolded, we caught up with them to uncover their standout moments. And since we couldn’t resist, we also threw in some spontaneous travel-inspired rapid-fire questions!
What did our Kreators do that exceeded your expectations or personally amazed you?
The sheer commitment and professionalism they displayed were remarkable. While social media often highlights the glitzy aspects, this journey sheds light on the relentless effort behind that curated content. This was my first experience traveling with Kreators, and I was astounded by their unwavering dedication—filming from dawn until dusk, meticulously capturing every detail. Witnessing their diligence firsthand left me deeply appreciative of their craft.
What key insights did you gain from this journey?
On a lighthearted note, I realized I could probably moonlight as a tour guide for a group of nearly 40 people! Jokes aside, this trip reinforced the significance of cultivating a strong and engaged Kreator community. Despite our group representing 11 different nations, we seamlessly bridged language and cultural gaps to create unforgettable memories together. As our network of Kreators continues to expand, fostering these relationships remains a priority. They are the driving force behind the program’s continuous evolution and success.
Three essentials you never travel without? My trusty tripod, camera, and a universal travel adapter!
A local delicacy you could eat endlessly? Sushi—without a doubt! I could move to Japan just for this.
An underrated gem on your Japan travel list? Uji! This Kyoto town is a paradise for matcha lovers. Every store is brimming with matcha-inspired delights—think matcha ramen, dumplings, and even takoyaki. A true dreamland!
How did you coordinate itinerary planning?
This was a collaborative effort between the Japan Business Development team and our planning crew. In addition to the three of us, our mentors—including Mildred Ang, Malcolm Koh, and Rhea Mann—offered invaluable guidance and support. Our primary objective was to curate unique experiences that our Kreators could share with their audiences.
We incorporated popular attractions such as a visit to the breathtaking Mt. Fuji, a trip to Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan, and a serene stroll through Arashiyama’s bamboo forest. Additionally, we introduced lesser-known yet fascinating activities, such as a hands-on temari sushi-making workshop and a behind-the-scenes tour at Warner Bros. Studios—The Making of Harry Potter.
Was there an experience that took you beyond your comfort zone?
From a planning perspective, this trip challenged me to embrace new skills beyond my usual role. While I generally enjoy spontaneous travel, organizing a seamless itinerary for over 30 people requires meticulous attention to detail and adaptability.
The most inspiring landmark you visited?
Riding a go-kart through Tokyo was a bucket-list moment! The thrill of cruising past the illuminated Tokyo Tower was simply unforgettable.
Most unforgettable souvenirs from the trip?
A rather unconventional one! While filming at the picturesque Dream Bridge—a renowned Mt. Fuji viewpoint—I took a tumble down the stairs. The incident, hilariously caught on camera, left me with a small scar that I now jokingly refer to as my ‘Japan trip souvenir.’ Pro tip: always watch your step while traveling!
What was the most meaningful cultural exchange experience?
Traveling with Kreators from 12 diverse cultural backgrounds naturally led to rich exchanges. One standout moment was our opening dinner in Osaka at an Izakaya near Umeda Sky. Initially, I was apprehensive about how such a varied group would gel, but the instant camaraderie was heartwarming.
As we gathered around shared tables, conversations flowed effortlessly. Kreators swapped travel stories, reacted to traditional Japanese dishes, and even exchanged insights about the cuisine. Those familiar with Japan guided first-time visitors through the menu, creating an organic and meaningful bonding experience. This night underscored the power of food in bringing people together.
How do familiarization trips help fulfill Klook’s mission of bringing the world closer through experiences?
These trips foster authentic cultural exchanges, enabling Kreators to share their diverse experiences with their audiences. By showcasing different cultures through their unique perspectives, they inspire more travelers to embrace new destinations and traditions.
While our itinerary was packed, it allowed our Kreators to experience a wide spectrum of activities together, creating shared memories. From the collective awe of witnessing Mt. Fuji’s grandeur to the shared adrenaline rush on Universal Studios Japan’s Flying Dinosaur rollercoaster, every moment reinforced the power of travel in bridging cultural gaps.
A travel mishap you can laugh about now?
Lost-in-translation moments are inevitable while traveling! One of the Kreators mistakenly triggered an emergency alarm at The Making of Harry Potter attraction in Tokyo by pressing what he assumed was a faulty QR code scanner. Within seconds, sirens blared, lights flashed, and chaos ensued!
After some frantic explanations, the situation was resolved, but the button became an inside joke for the remainder of the trip. Lesson learned: Always read the signs carefully!
One place in Japan you’d return to? Why?
Kyoto! We barely scratched the surface of its hidden alleys, quaint cafes, and local food spots. The soy matcha latte I had there still lingers in my memory, and I can’t wait to go back and explore more.
Best tip for first-time travelers to Japan?
Download the Klook app—it was a game-changer! As someone who enjoys spontaneous adventures, being able to book Shinkansen tickets and experiences on the go (in English, no less) saved me from unnecessary stress. Plus, opting for the airport express trains instead of taxis saved a significant amount of money.
A delightful bonus? The airport train from Osaka to Kansai Airport turned out to be the viral Hello Kitty-themed one—an unexpected yet adorable surprise!
This journey was more than just a trip—it was a celebration of cultural connections, shared experiences, and unforgettable memories. Until the next adventure!
